Become a Freemason

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step โ€” and that step is reaching out to us.

Requirements for Membership

Freemasonry is open to men who meet these basic qualifications.

๐Ÿ‘ค

Adult Male

You must be a man of at least 18 years of age (21 in some jurisdictions). We welcome men from all backgrounds, professions, and walks of life.

โ˜…

Good Character

We look for men of integrity, honor, and good moral standing in the community. A criminal background may be a barrier to membership.

โ—ˆ

Belief in a Supreme Being

Freemasonry requires a belief in a Supreme Being, however you understand that concept. We are not affiliated with any particular religion.

โ™ก

Free Will

Your petition must come of your own free will. We do not recruit โ€” we welcome those who seek us out.

How to Join

I

Reach Out

Contact us through this website or attend a public event. Meet some of our Brothers and ask your questions freely.

II

Submit a Petition

When ready, submit a petition for membership. Two members of the lodge must vouch for your character.

III

Investigation

A committee meets with you and your family to learn more about you and answer any remaining questions.

IV

Lodge Vote

The lodge votes by secret ballot. A single negative vote can prevent membership โ€” so good character matters.

V

The Three Degrees

If accepted, you will receive the three symbolic degrees: Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft, and Master Mason.

VI

A Brother for Life

Upon raising to Master Mason, you become a full member with all the rights and responsibilities of the craft.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Freemasonry?

โ†’

Freemasonry is the world's oldest and largest fraternal organization, with roots dating back to the stonemason guilds of medieval Europe. Today it is a fraternity of men bound by moral principles and a commitment to brotherly love, relief, and truth. We use ritual, symbolism, and fellowship to teach ethical lessons and encourage personal growth.

Is Freemasonry a religion?

โ†’

No. Freemasonry is not a religion, nor is it a substitute for religion. While we require a belief in a Supreme Being, we do not promote any specific religion and our meetings are not religious services. Men of all faiths โ€” Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, and many others โ€” are welcomed and respected as Brothers.

How much time does membership require?

โ†’

We hold stated meetings on the 1st Monday of every month, with dinner beginning at 7:15 PM. Beyond that, there are study circles, social events, and charitable activities โ€” but attendance is never mandatory. You give what you can, and the fraternity gives back in kind.

What are the costs involved?

โ†’

There is a one-time initiation fee and annual dues. Our fees are reasonable and we do not want cost to be a barrier to a man of good character. Please contact us to discuss specifics โ€” we have never turned away a worthy candidate for financial reasons.

Is Freemasonry a secret society?

โ†’

Freemasonry is a society with secrets โ€” not a secret society. Our existence, meeting places, and membership are all public. What we keep private are certain signs, words, and portions of our ritual, which have been the method of recognition among Masons for centuries. We meet openly and welcome public scrutiny of our principles.

What are the benefits of joining?

โ†’

Brotherhood with men of character from all walks of life. Opportunities for self-improvement and leadership. A network of Masons across California and around the world. The satisfaction of contributing to your community through charitable work. And the timeless ritual and philosophy that has inspired kings, presidents, and common men alike for centuries.
